There have been commercial fishing off the coast of Ii since at least the Middle Ages. Fishing is still an important source of food and a hobby for many here, for some it is a profession. You can try traditional net fishing in a professional fisherman's boat. At the beginning of the trip, we will set the nets in good fishing spots, depending on the season. In between, we'll have coffee while enjoying the sea air and admiring the nature.

Finally, together we will pull up one or two sets of nets, catching perch and pike depending on the season, and whitefish in autumn. On this excursion, you'll have a lot of hands-on experience: holding the top pole of the net and feeling the tugs of the fish in your hand, you'll remove the catch from the net and handle it correctly. Seagulls and white-tailed eagles may try to get their share of the catch. And what about seals?

The boat is a seven-metre aluminium open boat with a flat, firm bottom, so fishing is comfortable and safe. Equipped with fish finder and powered by a 100 horsepower four-stroke Honda.

PRICE:

45€/person, minimum booking 135€. 6 people maximum.

Price includes boat transport and guide, fishing equipment for your use and local permits, fishing clothes and gloves, floating equipment, coffee or tea. (People aged 18-64 need a government fishery management license to fish: www.eraluvat.fi.)

If purchased by a guide, the state fishery management fee is €12 per person. You can buy some of the fresh catch directly from the boat.

OTHER THINGS:

We do not go out in case of a storm.

For larger groups than six people, we can make several trips so that everyone can fish.

The product is available from May to late October, depending on the weather. The earlier in the spring and later in the fall we fish, please note that the weather can be cold. The trip can be arranged for any day or time.

Difficulty: light to heavy. Lifting nets is hard work, but the work is shared with all participants, so the strain does not become heavy.  Everyone takes part in the fishing at their own pace and this influences the level of effort.

You will need clothing to cope with potentially cold wind and rain or splashes from the boat. Sunglasses are recommended at all times, as is a hat.

The starting point is in Ii, at a marina to be decided before trip. This is subject to weather conditions. Iisland cottage guests will be picked up at the cottage or in the immediate vicinity.

Cancellation and payment conditions. Cancellation 14 days before departure free of charge. 7-13 days before cancellation, the reservation fee will be retained. Cancellation later than 7 days before, the full amount will be retained. Rainy weather is not an acceptable reason for cancellation. Payment by invoice or payment card in advance
